Alex Ortiz
Welcome to Ortiz Heating & Air Conditioning, your trusted partner for all your HVAC service needs in San Francisco. With scorching summers becoming the new normal, it’s essential to stay cool and comfortable in your home or office. That’s why we’re here to share some valuable tips for beating the summer heat and ensuring your indoor environment remains pleasant and refreshing.
First and foremost, it’s crucial to optimize your air conditioning system’s performance. Begin by scheduling a professional maintenance service with our experienced technicians. They will thoroughly inspect and clean your HVAC system, ensuring it operates at peak efficiency. Additionally, remember to change your air filters regularly to promote proper airflow and minimize dust and allergens.
Another effective strategy to beat the heat is by employing smart cooling techniques. During the hottest parts of the day, close your curtains or blinds to block out direct sunlight and prevent unnecessary heat gain. Consider using fans to circulate cool air throughout your space, allowing your air conditioner to work more efficiently. Furthermore, adjusting your thermostat a few degrees higher when you’re away from home can save energy and reduce cooling costs.

California has ambitious goals for transitioning to clean, all-electric appliances to eliminate building emissions. But meeting these goals will require action on a little discussed, yet critical issue: HVAC permitting compliance.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is responsible for 24 percent of electricity use and 40 percent of gas use in California buildings, with households spending over $1,000 on HVAC alone each year.
Without a doubt, these systems have significant impacts on energy costs and home comfort. That is why HVAC installations are required by law to be permitted and comply with the California Building Code’s quality installation requirements.
Yet, today, most HVAC installations in California are completed without a permit. In fact, only about 10 percent of residential HVAC replacements are permitted, resulting in about 315,000 unpermitted HVAC installations every year. Widespread, unpermitted HVAC installation wastes energy, worsens indoor air quality, and hinders the transition to clean, electric appliances. The California State Legislature can and must improve HVAC permitting compliance by passing Senate Bill (SB) 795 this year.

When the temperature spikes, so too do suicide rates, crime, and violence. Twitter sees hate tweets and online aggression increase during heatwaves, along with phrasing that researchers have linked to anxiety and depression. Our very language captures the confluence of heat and emotion—when we are annoyed, we get “hot under the collar”; when we are angry our “blood boils;” and when something gets to be too much, we have to “let off steam.” Spike Lee’s seminal exploration of racial tension in 1989’s Do The Right Thing unfolds during the hottest day of the year, when scorching temperatures stoke violent reactions. Doctors and scientists are now starting to unravel the complex interplay between extreme heat and poor mental health outcomes…

The two things most people know are what HVAC stands for — heating, ventilation, and air conditioning — and what it does. In basic terms, it’s the system that keeps your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In some cases, an HVAC system is one self-contained unit that does everything, while in other cases, it’s a combination of different units like a gas furnace, air conditioner, etc. Beyond temperature regulation, HVACs can control humidity levels and help purify the air in your home.

The driving factor for growth market is increasing demand for HVAC systems and awareness around IAQ.
A greater awareness of how HVAC can affect air quality and the spread of infection has been one of the positives to emerge from the last two years of the pandemic in the facility management industry. Alex Ortiz
Heaters are going to start getting turned on here very shortly as the cooler weather begins to settle, and we want to make sure you’re safe. Right around this time of the year, we get this question a lot. It’s a valid question.
The heating system is a potentially dangerous system, and should be treated as such. Unfortunately, many people suffer loss of their home, injury, or even death because they don’t have their HVAC system inspected annually before the cooler season kicks into gear. Not only is there an element of danger involved, but there’s also a question of efficiency. You may not know that there is something causing your system to run inefficiently, which will ultimately cost you more money in heating bills than had you rectified the situation during a routine inspection.

MYTH: It is more efficient to leave the air conditioner running continually at an optimal level than it is to turn if o and turn it back on to cool down the house.
FACT: Electricity is electricity. The more AC you use, the more electricity you use, the less efficient you are. When you aren’t running your air conditioner, keep the doors and windows closed to keep additional humidity out.
